Child Safegarding
Protecting children is fundamental to everything we do.
1. Our Commitment
The Nyakim Project is committed to creating safe environments where every child is treated with dignity, respect and care. We have zero tolerance for abuse, exploitation, neglect or any conduct that places a child at risk.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All staff, volunteers, partners and visitors who interact with children through The Nyakim Project are expected to uphold our safeguarding standards.
2. How We Safeguard Children
Our safeguarding practices include appropriate screening and background checks, safeguarding training, clear codes of conduct and professional boundaries.
Our local team works closely with students, families, schools and Kenya’s Department of Children Services to support children’s well-being and respond promptly to concerns.
We protect children’s privacy by obtaining informed consent before using photographs or personal stories and by limiting the public sharing of information that could identify a child.
3. Report a Safeguarding Concern
Anyone with a concern about the safety or well-being of a child connected to The Nyakim Project is encouraged to report it.
Please email info@thenyakimproject.com with the subject line “Confidential: Safeguarding Concern.”
All concerns will be taken seriously, handled as confidentially as possible and, when necessary, referred to the appropriate child protection authorities.
If a child is in immediate danger, do not wait for a response from The Nyakim Project. Contact the appropriate local emergency or child protection authority.
